What Is Ultherapy and How Does It Work?
Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment that uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to lift and tighten skin on the face, neck, and decolletage. Understanding the timeline helps you plan your journey and set realistic expectations. Ultherapy is a gradual process, and patience is rewarded with natural, lasting results.
Your provider will conduct a thorough skin assessment and review your aesthetic goals. Arrive with clean skin and avoid any retinol or exfoliating products for a few days prior.
Day of treatment
A full-face and neck Ultherapy session typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. Your provider will apply ultrasound gel and use the Ultherapy handpiece to deliver focused energy to targeted areas. Most patients describe the sensation as warmth or a brief tingling feeling during energy delivery.
Days 1 to 7 after treatment: Some patients experience mild redness, tenderness, or temporary swelling in the treated area. These are normal responses and typically resolve within a few days. There is no required downtime, so most people return to their regular activities the same day.
Weeks 2 through 8: Collagen production is actively underway beneath the surface. You may begin to notice subtle improvements in skin firmness and texture during this period.
Months 2 through 6: This is when the most noticeable results typically emerge. Skin continues to lift and tighten as new collagen matures. Many patients see their peak results around the three to six month mark.
