What Is XeRF™?
XeRF is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive multifrequency monopolar radiofrequency system from Cynosure Lutronic. It emits two frequencies — 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz — so a single pass reaches more than one tissue depth. The shallower wavelength tightens at the surface; the deeper one reaches the SMAS, the same structural layer a surgical facelift addresses. Controlled heating in those layers stimulates collagen and elastin.

The XeRF™ Treatment
A XeRF session takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on the area treated, and there is no downtime afterward. We recommend a minimum of two sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, because collagen and elastin rebuild on their own timeline rather than the appointment’s.
The Procedure
Your provider moves the handpiece across the treatment area in passes. You will feel a building warmth as the radiofrequency energy reaches the tissue beneath the surface. The work is guided by that sensation rather than a fixed setting, so the energy is adjusted as the area warms.
Two Frequencies, One Pass
XeRF emits 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz together. The higher frequency concentrates its effect nearer the surface, where fine lines and surface laxity sit; the lower frequency carries deeper, down to the SMAS. Treating both depths in one pass is what separates a multifrequency system from a single-frequency one.
Face, Neck and Body
The face and neck are the most requested areas, but the same platform treats the arms, abdomen, and thighs. Areas can be combined in a single visit — your provider will map the plan at your assessment.

The superficial musculoaponeurotic system — the SMAS — is the fibrous layer a surgical facelift lifts and repositions. XeRF’s 2 MHz wavelength carries energy to that depth without an incision. Warming it stimulates the collagen and elastin that hold the layer taut, which is why the change reads as definition rather than surface smoothing alone.
XeRF™ Recovery and Results
XeRF is a no-downtime treatment. There is no wound to care for and no recovery to schedule around; most clients return to work, skincare, and exercise the same day.
Immediately After Treatment
The treated area may look flushed and feel warm for a short period. That settles on its own within a few hours. Makeup and your normal routine can resume the same day.
How Results Develop
Collagen and elastin rebuild gradually over the weeks that follow. Skin reads firmer and better defined as that remodeling progresses, which is why the fuller change is visible some weeks after a session rather than on the day of it.
Optimal Outcomes
A minimum of two sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended. Many of our clients then continue with periodic maintenance once the initial course is complete. Your provider will set the interval at your assessment based on the area treated and how your skin responds.
